Trichotomy

Sean Foran - piano / John Parker -drums / Samuel Vincent - bass

Australian contemporary jazz Trichotomy really need no introduction. Formed while music students in 1999, their 20+ year career of adventurous improvising showcases the groups ability to blend dense rhythmic grooves with evocative melodies, engaging a seamless mix of electronic & acoustic soundscapes, captivating ensemble dynamics and engaging trio interplay. They have toured throughout Japan, China, UK, Europe, Canada, South America & Australia, with performances at the Vossa Jazz Festival Norway, Toyko International Jazz Festival and Jazzahead Germany. Their latest album “TO VANISH” has been called ‘an outstanding achievement’ (Rhythms Magazine), with the trio as ‘restlessly creative as ever, still developing and redefining their sound, finding new musical ground to explore’ (Jazzmann).

After a string of collaborative tracks with classical percussionist Nozomi Omote in 2021/2022 in 2023 they released a new album TO VANISH on the Earshift Music label. TO VANISH showcases the bands’ ability to synthesise a spectrum of concepts, extending the sound world first created on the ‘Known/Unknown’ album. Electronic and acoustic sounds interact, connecting with Trichotomy’s signature melodic inventiveness. They toured the UK+Europe in support of the album release – performing at clubs, and festivals.

In 2024 they once again collaborate with songwriter Danny Widdicombe on a new album and release a new range of multimedia work in 2025.
